Bhimthadi Jatra Brings Rural Culture, Women Entrepreneurship and Traditional Flavours to Pune
Pune, 24 December 2025: The Bhimthadi Jatra is currently underway in Pune, offering a vibrant celebration of rural life, traditional industries and women-led entrepreneurship. The fair has emerged as a unique platform where food, textiles, handicrafts and folk culture come together, attracting thousands of visitors from the city.
From the moment visitors enter, the fair presents a strong rural identity. Traditional occupations from rural Maharashtra are showcased through creative rangoli displays, highlighting their relevance even in the 21st century. These visual narratives set the tone for a fair that celebrates heritage while encouraging sustainable livelihoods.
A major attraction of Bhimthadi Jatra is the participation of women self-help groups from across the state. These groups are directly selling handmade products, food items and crafts to consumers, helping them earn substantial income, boost confidence and strengthen local rural businesses.
Many stalls run by women entrepreneurs have reported sales worth lakhs, reflecting growing urban support for grassroots enterprises.
The fair also features a dedicated flea market showcasing handmade products from across India. Items from the North-East, West Bengal, Rajasthan and other states draw significant attention, offering visitors a diverse shopping experience rooted in traditional craftsmanship.
Food remains one of the biggest crowd-pullers at the jatra. The food festival offers a wide range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, including Puran Poli, Maswadi Rassa, Modak, fish dishes, and a variety of mutton and chicken preparations. The variety leaves visitors spoilt for choice, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Apart from commerce, Bhimthadi Jatra serves as a cultural bridge between rural and urban communities. Live folk performances, tribal art displays and cultural exhibitions provide visitors with an immersive experience of Maharashtra’s rural traditions.
Stalls by farmer groups, organic food producers and agricultural institutions further encourage awareness about sustainable farming and local produce.
The fair is jointly organised by Agricultural Development Trust, Baramati and Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, Rahuri, with the aim of promoting rural entrepreneurship, cultural exchange and inclusive economic growth.
