In view of the recent demise of Ajit Pawar, the BJP has decided that the mayoral and deputy mayoral appointments will be marked without any public celebrations.

Party corporators have been clearly instructed not to burst crackers, throw gulal, or put up banners. Announcing the decision, BJP city president Dhiraj Ghate said the party wants to maintain restraint and dignity.

Nagpure, a three-time corporator from the Sinhagad Road area, has also been elected unopposed in the latest civic elections. This marks the first time the Sinhagad Road constituency will get the mayor’s post, giving the area a significant civic milestone.

The NCP, meanwhile, stated that it would “stand by the word given by Ajit Pawar.” Party leaders said the Pune civic elections were fought in a “friendly atmosphere” and that, as decided earlier, no candidate would be fielded against the BJP nominees.

The decision follows discussions between Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, which had paved the way for an unopposed mayor and deputy mayor election.
