PUNE: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) gave the green signal for construction of the flyover at Chandni Chowk near the National Defence Academy (NDA) road on Wednesday.

The ministry also approved transfer of Indian Air Force (IAF) land to Pune airport for development of cargo facility, Guardian Minister of Pune District Girish Bapat informed media persons from New Delhi.

A meeting was conducted in New Delhi, chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, for which Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and officials from MoD were present. During the meeting the issues related to Pune were also discussed. As the proposed flyover and road widening project at Chandni Chowk passes through the NDA premises, the MoD gave in-principle approval for starting the work. Around 48 gunthas land of NDA is part of the project, Bapat said. In exchange for this the MoD will be given another land holding in Ahmednagar.

The expansion of Pune airport based at Lohegaon was also discussed. While the MoD has given 15 acres of land for the expansion, it had not been transferred yet as cargo facility had not been relocated. The relocation was also given approval at the meeting which will make way for the completion of the expansion project, said Bapat.
