Pune, 14 July 2025: A large number of students staged a protest at Pune University today, accusing the administration of serious irregularities in the exam results. From early morning, members of student organizations gathered at the university gate and raised loud slogans against the examination department, alleging widespread errors in result processing, inconsistencies in grace marking, and lack of transparency.
As the protest intensified, a group of students suddenly became aggressive and broke through the university gate, forcing their way into the campus. In anticipation of the unrest, a heavy police force had been deployed at the university premises.
Following the breach, police authorities were instructed to remain on high alert. The anger among the students was visibly directed at what they described as a “mismanaged” and “unfair” system, prompting them to come together in protest.
Students alleged that the university had violated the standard rules for awarding grace marks. They explained that as per regulations, only 10% of the total marks in a paper can be awarded as grace, meaning a 50-mark paper should not receive more than 5 grace marks.
However, one student reportedly received 20 marks as grace despite originally scoring just 9, raising serious concerns about the credibility and fairness of the marking system. Students claimed that several such discrepancies were found in the results and questioned the integrity of the entire examination process.
In response to the situation, students presented a set of demands to the university authorities. These include making the result process transparent, correcting inaccurate results, conducting re-examinations for engineering students, and allowing the option of ‘carry-on’ for those who failed. The students warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, the agitation will intensify in the coming days.
Sources from within the university administration confirmed that the issue has been acknowledged, and a meeting with student representatives is being scheduled. Officials assured that appropriate action would be taken after reviewing the concerns raised, and further decisions would be announced soon.
