Check Maharashtra's first child-friendly police station in Pune

Pune: Pune becomes the first city in the state to have a child-friendly police station. The same has been brought up in Pune Cantonment (Camp) area with the help of city based NGO, ‘Hope for Children’.

It was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Pune Police, Amitabh Gupta and the director of IIT Kanpur, Abhay Karandikar. The Police station will prove to be crucial to serve justice to the juveniles who are caught in crimes or found to be the subject of crimes like sexual harassment or child labour.

Speaking about the same, Abhay Karandikar said, “Child Friendly Police Stations are an innovative concept in the direction of preventing juvenile crimes and child reforms. Pune police has worked with Hope for Children Foundation to set up this. Congratulations Pune police for this unique initiative.”

Police Commissioner, Amitabh Gupta, claims that many such projects are underway and will be worked up once the covid-19 battle is won. While addressing about the initiative, DCP Bacchan Singh, said, “This Police station will ensure speedy, assured and reliable justice to the juveniles. Over the years, we have witnessed growing crimes under Juvenile act.”

Along with Police Commissioner Gupta, many senior police officials were present at the inauguration.
