Choice of school now possible

PUNE: Awaiting the second lottery for the next round of admissions under the Right of Education to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, this year, the parents will get the chance to change their school preferences in the application form.

This decision was taken considering the problems faced by the parents while finding the correct location of their homes on the Google Maps while filling the forms. As Sakal Times had reported, due to the inaccuracy of location, many parents failed to select the schools within one to three km radius of their homes.

“We have received demands from many parents that they need to make corrections in the forms regarding their locations and school preferences, so we are planning to make arrangements to provide them with a particular period of time to do so. The official notification about the same is yet to be released,” Joint Director of Education Dinkar Temkar told Sakal Times.

Earlier, Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) Education Officer Sunil Kurhade had placed the request before Education Director considering the public demand.

“This year, the online application forms wanted to use geo-tagging feature to help parents select their location easily. However, hardly any parent was able to fill the forms in their homes. They took help from the activists, or filled the forms at cyber cafes. Due to these factors as well as fault in the Google Maps, many parents suffered, as they could not locate their house accurately, and now they are being denied the admission,” RTE activist Mukund Kirdat said.
