CID awards cops for securing convictions

Pune:  To motivate police officials in investigation, the state CID last week awarded 22 officers and police constables for securing conviction in five cases between January to May 2018. 

The cops have been rewarded for best detection, conviction and maximum recovery. The five cases included two from Mumbai and one each from Pune, Ahmednagar and Beed.

Officials who had investigated kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old Shubham Shirke of Dighi, then under Vishrantwadi police station, were among those felicitated. The officers included DySP Motichand Rathod, Police Inspector Sangeeta Patil, Assistant Police inspector Sachin Kale, Police Sub-Inspector Machhindra Gorde and Head Constable Kalyan Jagtap. The investigation and follow up led to life imprisonment to the main accused. 

The other case included triple murder in Ahmednagar in 2013 in which three youths were killed due to inter-caste marriage. The case registered with Sonai police station resulted death penalty to six accused in the case. DySP SD Bangar, SS Patil, PSI KM Shaikh, head constables RS Shaikh and RS Kalangde, were rewarded. 

According to officials, the case details are sent by respective police commissioners and range special IGP to the state CID headquarters based in Pune. A committee of CID officers analyses the merits of the case and then recommends to the Director General of Police (DGP) for various rewards. 

During the award ceremony, CID Chief Atulchandra Kulkarni handed over appreciation letter to 22 officers and policemen. Spl IGP (Crime-West) Pravin Salunkhe, Spl IGP (Crime-East) Fattesingh Patil, Spl IGP (SCRB) Dattatray Mandlik, DIG Jalindar Supekar, SP Pallavi Barge and other officials were also present.
