Complete Pune-Satara Highway work by Feb 2020, orders district collector

PUNE: As a lot of work on the Pune-Satara Highway is pending, District Collector Naval Kishore Ram has asked all stakeholders involved in the construction to complete the work before February 2020.

A review meeting on the pending work was held with locals from nearby villages, highway authority and other contractors at the collector’s office on Sunday after which, the decision was taken.

Ram said that a committee will also be formed to check the progress of ongoing work so that the work is completed on time. A number of locals had complained to the collector regarding the ongoing traffic issues on the highway and had asked the collector to shut down the Khed-Shivapur toll plaza.

Ram assured that while the decision to shut down the toll plaza is not in his hands, he will surely recommend the authorities to take action against the responsible stakeholders if the work is not completed on time.

“The work should not cause a problem to locals and to avoid a law and order situation, we need to pitch in and get the work done. I have also asked the local leaders to keep a track on the progress of the work. The contractors have given us different deadlines for different work and we will track the same,” added Ram.

The construction work is under progress at Velu, Varve, Nasrapur, Dhangavadi and Sarole and is expected to get completed before February 2020.  The members of ‘Toll Naka Hatao Sangarsh Samiti’ who have asked to shut down the toll plaza at Khed-Shivapur said that the authorities have assured many times about the completion of the work on time, however, they have failed to do so, forcing them to launch a protest.
