Coronavirus Pune: Gokhalenagar, Janwadi to be sealed for next three days

Pune: Pune is witnessing a continuous surge in new coronavirus cases. On Monday, Pune Municipal Corporation declared to create micro-containment zones releasing unaffected areas from the sealing of the affected areas.

Areas such as Nana Peth, Bhavani Peth, Raviwar Peth, Ganesh Peth and more with a number of wholesale market zones were delineated as containment zones, as a result of which these markets remained closed though lockdown norms eased from time to time. Now as the PMC decided to break the earlier containment zones into smaller de-containment zones, the shops here will start functioning.

Also, on the other side, the areas such as Gokhalenagar, Janwadi, Pandavnagar, Wadarwadi which are identified as containment zones will be sealed for the next three days (Wednesday-Friday). These areas will follow the strict lockdown measures for three days as shops that of essential services will only function here. People residing in these areas will not be allowed to go outside the area. The milk shops can stay open for just two hours in the morning.

Siddharth Shirole, MLA of the area talking to Sakal Times said, “The area is sealed for next three days. Though the COVID-19 cases are surging in these three areas, the situation is under control. The essential shops will run smoothly and extra care will be taken in the area."

A few days back, the areas were identified as a hotspot. The slum-pockets are witnessing a surge in the cases from the past few days. Dhole Patil Road ward reports over 300 COVID-19 cases. Wadarwadi has 130 cases followed by Janwadi with 75 and 66 cases in Pandavnagar. Also, Gokhalenagar has 41 coronavirus cases trailed by 21 in Ramoshiwadi. The administration has demanded full cooperation from the citizens in the area for the next three days.
