Coronavirus Pune: Online coaching class commence in full swing

Pune: Even though the schools are shut due to coronavirus outbreak in the city, online education has started even before the academic year commenced this year. Along with schools, home tuition and private coaching classes have also gone online and are in full swing.

Coaching classes start along with schools every year, but this year many coaching classes started their online sessions in April itself. Online medium of education has eliminated the physical constraints the classes faced normally. Syllabus of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Board, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) are taught by the coaching classes online, The classes charge fees based on the syllabus of the board. They charge higher fees for CBSE and ICSE board syllabus. At present, there is no regulation over the amount of fees charged for online sessions by private coaching classes or home tutors.

"My son has been promoted to class 10 this year. The school has started online classes two months back. There is a lot of difference between physical and virtual education. Some concepts can be better explained by the teacher when they are face to face with students. That touch is not seen during the online classes. Private coaching classes give personal attention to each student even on the online platform. So students can get their queries resolved, but the private classes fees are too high to afford," Ankush Pawar, a parent, was quoted saying.

Hema Shinde, a coaching class owner also said, "Considering the coronavirus epidemic, we started our online classes since April. It was our first experience of teaching online. We have 15 to 20 students in each online batch. This makes it easy to pay attention to every student. We are using a teleconferencing application for conducting classes."

  • Class Fee: Rs 3,000 to Rs 9,000 per subject per student
  • Annual Fee: Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh and above
  • Strength of students: 10 to 20 per batch
