COVID-19 flattening its curve? No containment zones in Pune now
Pune: With Pune city reporting a decline in new COVID-19 cases, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) now has zero containment zones.
The move has come after eight months when the novel coronavirus made its impact in the city. According to the municipal corporation, the areas under the PMC currently reports 200-300 new COVID-19 cases.
Pune Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar in an order released on Thursday said, "There will be no containment zones around the city from January. If any specific area or society reports any positive cases, it will be declared as micro-containment zones."
After the 'Unlock' termed by the state government, many Green Zones of the city which reported only few cases started to surge. As a result, the number of containment zones were increased by the civic body. Initially, the zones were restricted to slum pockets but was expanded to residental societies too. Month of July witnessed highest number of 106 containment zones in the city.
