COVID-19 Pune: All India Medical Practitioners Association to provide MBBS and postgraduate doctors for government hospitals duty

Pune: The All India Medical Practitioners Association has promised to provide 650 MBBS and post-graduate doctors to work in government hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients in Pune district. The district administration has also appealed to private hospitals to think 'out of box' and come up with solutions to give relief to patients and their relatives in the current pandemic crisis.

A meeting of Chief Executive Officers, Chief Intensivists and hospital management officials was held by the Divisional Commissioner Office in presence of Officer on Special Duty Saurabh Rao, District Collector Naval Kishor Ram and other administration and civic officials. The officials who attended the meeting said it was fruitful with most private hospitals responding positively and assuring to take stock of the situation to increase hospital beds capacity for COVID-19 patients.

Rao said, "Private hospitals have several resources available to them. They have interns and consultants' doctors who can help them manage the shortage of staff. Private hospitals should think out of the box and arrange all hospital beds for treating COVID-19 patients. We have also sought the help of All India Medical Practitioners Association. The association has 650 doctors registered with them as members. Representatives of the association have promised us to make MBBS and postgraduate doctors available to work in government and civic hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients."

"Recently we visited the Navale hospital where 160 hospital beds are being used for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. The hospital management has assured to take this count to 400 soon. A minor problem they faced was they had to use some hospital beds as an accommodation facility for their doctors and medical staff. They have requested the administration to arrange for hostel facility in nearby areas for this staff. We have agreed to their demand. This will release quite a few numbers of beds required for critical patients of Covid-19. We appeal to hospitals to not use beds for non-medical purposes. The administration will help hospitals in all ways possible in matters like this," Rao said.

Rao also stated that Inlaks Budhrani hospital has made available 310 beds and Ruby Hall Clinic has given 400 beds for treatment of COVID-19 patients.
