 COVID-19 Pune: Senior citizens, co-morbid patients surveyed after city witnesses a drop in fatality rates

Pune: Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao said the district and civic administration is focussing on surveying senior citizens and comorbid patients to bring down the case fatality ratio in Pune district and city.

Rao added that a survey of 20,000 persons with comorbidities had found that 922 were infected with COVID-19. These persons received treatment for COVID-19 in time which has helped to reduce the case fatality ratio. With the COEP jumbo COVID Hospital ready for operations, the number of oxygenated and ICU beds has adequately increased in the city and currently no patient is on waiting. A second jumbo hospital facility is also being set up in Pimpri-Chinchwad with 600 oxygen beds and 200 ICU beds.

The Pune division which includes Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur districts has recorded 5381 deaths due to COVID-19 disease. The total number of COVID-19 infected persons in the Pune division has crossed two lakh mark. Out of these, one lakh 45 thousand 719 patients have recovered. The number of active COVID-19 cases is 49,848 while the recovery rate in the division is 72.50 per cent and the death rate is 2.75 per cent.

Regarding the inflated bills being issued by private hospitals and action taken against such hospitals, Rao said that about Rs 50 lakh amount has been deducted so far from the inflated bills issued by various hospitals to patients.

A total of 103 complaints from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) area have been received by the administration so far. Out of those, 65 bills were found to be inappropriate. Also, 30 bills issued by private hospitals within the limits of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) were examined.

PMC and PCMC has formed 28 teams of auditors who are pre-verifying all bills above Rs 1.5 lakh issued by any hospital to COVID-19 patients in the two cities.
