Pune: “Pune city is witnessing a number of coronavirus cases daily. Till now the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has spent Rs 200 crore volunteering but the Maharashtra state government is purposely pulling politics in such situation and in return and has provided only Rs three crore to the administration,” said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pune city President Jagdish Mulik as he criticised the Mahavikas Aghadi for playing politics as the BJP is in power in the municipal corporation.
He added, "The cost of coronavirus control is covered by door-to-door surveys of patients, medical tests, swab tests, use of Antigen kits, construction of COVID centres, facilities at quarantine centres, hospital facilities, ventilators, PPE kits, rations and public awareness and more. The administration also has to bear the cost of treatment in ten private hospitals. The PMC has so far spent around Rs 200 crore for all these works. On the return, the state government has provided only Rs 3 crore."
Mulik also demanded that the state government should provide alteast Rs 500 crore for the construction work of Corona Hospital, for its patients, constructing adequate faculties of the Intensive Care Unit (ICUs) in the municipal hospital, provision of necessary skilled manpower, control of the infection in future.
Mulik said, "While distributing the funds, the state government should consider the number of patients receiving treatment without setting the criteria for each municipal category. The number of positive patients in Pune city till date is 34,040 and 21,107 patients have recovered. The number of active patients is 12,016. The government must see other aspects prior to giving such amount. The government should consider the citizens’ grievances first but in such time also this Maharashtra state government is playing politics which is completely wrong."
