Pune: At least three patients – including a 24-year-old man – from Uruli Kanchan, Naygaon and Kadamwak Vasti in Haveli taluka died on Monday (July 27) due to unavailability of ventilator beds and proper medical treatment in time for COVID-19.

The 24-year-old patient was from Kadakwak Vasti, located at around 30 kilometres from Pune city. He had shown symptoms of Covid-19 four days before. On the first day, he took rest at home, but on the second day he started feeling breathless. His family members and relatives tried to get him admitted in nearby private hospitals but ventilator beds were not available. He was taken to seven hospitals in Loni Kalbhor, Shewalewadi, Hadapsar, Uruli Kanchan and Pune city but ventilator beds were not vacant. Finally, he was taken to a private hospital in Saswad where a ventilator bed was available, but till then his health condition had worsened. The patient died on Monday (July 27) morning at 10 am.

Another 65-year-old man from Naygaon died on Monday night. He was under treatment for Covid-19 at a private hospital in Kunjirwadi for the past five days. On Sunday (July 26) he was suffering from shortness of breath and hence was taken to the government-run Sassoon General Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital but a ventilator bed was not available. His family members tried to get him one from other private hospitals but could not arrange it. He succumbed to the COVID-19 disease on Monday night.

A 70-year-old man from Tupe Vasti in Uruli Kanchan also died at a private hospital in Saswad on Monday early morning as he did not get treatment for COVID-19 in time.
