PUNE: Though there is a ban on the sale of nylon glass-coated (Chinese) manja, it seems there is no control on its sale. Another incident has come to light where Chinese manja has created damage inncocent people. On Thursday, a youth named Anil Thorat was injured, suffering injuries to the neck, after he got entangled in a manja thread. Though the injury was not serious, there have been many such cases recently.
Thorat, a resident of Dhankawadi, was riding a bike. When he crossed the Mhatre Bridge, he realised that Manja was entangled in his neck. Though there was no major injury to him, there was some little mark on his neck. Thorat then went to the Alankar police station and lodged a complaint. The police are investigating the case.
IS BAN ONLY ON PAPER?
In July 2017, the National Green Tribunal had banned the use of ‘Chinese’ kite strings made of nylon or any synthetic material, which is a non-biodegradable material. It had directed all the state governments to prohibit the manufacture, sale, storage, purchase and use of synthetic manja or nylon threads and all other synthetic string used to fly kites.
