Don’t believe in rumours! State board results for 10th, 12th to be delayed

Don’t believe in rumours! State board results for 10th, 12th to be delayed

Pune: Yet another demerit of COVID-19. The class 10th (Secondary school Certificate (SSC)) and 12th (Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) results of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary are likely to be delayed by a fortnight. Owing to the coronavirus lockdown across the State, the checking and moderation of the answers sheets could not be started as per the schedule which pushed the process of results further.

The State Board has appealed that the parents and students should not believe in the rumours predicting the result dates for both the classes.

While talking to Sakal Times, State board chairperson Shakuntala Kale said, “The board like always will declare the dates of the results through its notification. Parents should not believe on any dates that are getting viral on various social media platforms.

So far, the checking and moderation work of the answer-sheets for both the classes is still going on. We cannot exactly tell the dates for the results as work hasn’t finished yet”, she informed.

Apparently, for over a decade now, the class 12th gets declared in the last week of May while class 10th results are out by the second week of June. The system to declare results earlier was started to be in tune with the results by CBSE and ICSE in the State.

The examination for class 10th was still under process when the State and country went into lockdown. Thus, the Geography paper was first postponed, and later it was cancelled. When asked about the marking system for this paper, Kale said, “we have sent a proposal to the State government which will give us the guidelines about how to go about it.

At this juncture, I will not reveal anything about it”, Kale retorted.

Checking of the answer-sheets still a challenge

Due to lockdown, earlier the answer-papers were stocked at the State Board office. Later as there were some relaxations in the lockdown rules, the answer-sheets were provided to the teachers. Now, the teachers have been told to deposit the checked answer-sheets to the respective divisional boards.

Despite various challenges, we have been doing our work of checking of the answer-sheets. Few of our colleagues come under red zones, and there are few restrictions on travels in certain zones”, said Kale. Still, we are trying our best to ensure the safety of our staff vis-à-vis to declare the results without much delay”, she added.

Nine divisional boards

HSC and SSC examinations are conducted by the nine divisional boards including Pune, Mumbai, Latur, Kolhapur, Nashik, Kokan, Nagpur, Amravati and Aurangabad. While the state board headquarter is in Pune. Delay in submitting the result in any one of these nine divisions, delays the result for the entire State.

Number of students for the examination

Over, 17 lakh students had appeared for SSC (Class 10th) examination which had started on March 3, 2020, while over 14 lakh students had appeared for HSC (Class 12th) exam which had begun on February 18, 2020.
