Pune: An MBA student and a housewife have jointly developed an innovative indicator, which can be mounted on the roof of a four-wheeler for better visibility while turning right or left. The main purpose behind improvising this device is to avoid accidents.
Ankita Nagarkar, an MBA student, and Ratna Patil, residents of Chinchwad and Nigdi, respectively, have developed this ‘innovative indicator’. The duo have registered a patent this month for their innovation. They will soon submit a proposal to the Ministry of Transport to approve its use for four-wheelers.
Nagarkar said, “I have seen that many accidents happen because the car indicators are not clearly visible. Therefore, cars following such vehicles ram into them. Normally, the indicators are placed in the tail light of the car while some cars (new models) have it on the side mirrors as well. Besides having two indicators on each side, accidents take place. Hence, these LED indicators, which can be mounted on the roof of the car, will provide a better indication of a car turning left or right.”
“This innovative indicator will prove useful for heavy vehicles, including luxury buses and trucks,” Nagarkar added.
Patil said, “Ankita came up with the idea of the ‘innovative indicator’ to be mounted on the roof of a car. Then, we approached a local mechanic and he attached the wires of the LED lights to the car system. We then thought of filing a patent for the same.”
Nagarkar said, “When a car driver would turn on the left or right indicator, the LED lights mounted on the top of the car would also turn on along with the inbuilt indicators in the car. They are also waterproof. As per the RTO regulation, it will be yellow in colour.
Ten successful patents
Nagarkar, till date, has nine patents registered in her name. She got her first patent registered at the age of 16 in 2011. For that, she got a national award, which was presented by former president APJ Abdul Kalam.
