Pune, 26 November 2025: The Election Commission has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to urgently correct major errors found in the draft voter list for the upcoming municipal elections. After the ward-wise list was released, citizens and political parties reported large-scale inaccuracies, prompting immediate intervention.
Thousands of names have reportedly been shifted to incorrect wards. Residents of Mundhwa were shown in Warje, voters from Khed-Shivapur appeared on Sinhagad Road, and even people from the Khadki Cantonment Board were listed under Gokhalenagar. With more than 500 complaints filed in Pune, the highest in the state, the issue has raised major concerns.
PMC officials earlier blamed the errors on software issues and said the division was based on delimitation guidelines. However, the Election Commission noted that even voters correctly listed in the July 1, 2025 base roll were missing or wrongly placed. The Commission has now placed full responsibility for corrections on the Municipal Commissioner.
The administration has been directed to verify each case thoroughly and fix errors proactively, without waiting for objections. Senior officials have been asked to conduct field checks themselves instead of relying only on BLOs or junior staff. Complaints must be resolved promptly, and objections will be accepted until November 27.
"A meeting will be held with assistant commissioners of all regional offices to review the draft voter list prepared for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. Instructions will be issued for correcting the voter list."
