PUNE: Engineering and medicine are the two main career choices on the minds of the youngsters who have aced the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) - Class X examination in the city.
The schools in Pune as well as Maharashtra fared well in the ICSE results declared by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on Tuesday. With 45 schools in the State under the Board, Maharashtra has achieved a pass percentage of 99.85.
Shreya Ramanujam of St Mary’s School is one of the topmost scorers in the city with 99 per cent marks. She is fond of programming and wants to learn new languages. “I love computers and mathematics the most. While I am not certain what profession I would like to pursue, I am definitely taking admission to the science stream for Class XI,” she said.
Of the 188 girls and boys from St Mary’s School who appeared for the examination, 48.4 per cent secured above 95 per cent in English and best of four subjects.
A total of 82.4 per cent secured above 90 per cent marks. Several students scored cent per cent marks in mathematics (31 students), history, civics and geography (two), science - physics, chemistry and biology (one).
The 244 students from both campuses of VIBGYOR Group of Schools at NIBM and Balewadi achieved 100 per cent result, with 42 per cent scoring above 90 per cent.
The top scorer at VIBGYOR NIBM, Ananya Katyal (98.4 per cent), wants to pursue her career in medicine. “I want to be a doctor. I have always loved biology and mathematics. I am very happy with my score. Study with due amount of time for breaks has been my mantra for success. Also, I always write down notes while reading. I think that helped me remember better,” Katyal added.
Reiterating the importance of breaks and outdoor activities, Ronit Nanwani, one of the top scorers at the Pawar Public School, Amanora Town, Hadapsar, said, “I want to be an IITian, and my interest is mainly in computer engineering. I have already begun my coaching for cracking JEE. However, one thing I have always continued is my love for playing. I even went out to play with my friends during my board examinations. That helped me refresh my mind and study better.”
Getting 100 per cent result for the eighth year in a row, 154 children at the Pawar Public School passed with flying colours. The first rank at the school was shared by Arya Narke and Krutarth Deshmukh with Nanwani, closely followed by Richard Johnson at 97.83 per cent. At the Hutchings High School & Junior College, one of the most acclaimed ICSE schools in the city, 105 out of 191 students scored 90 per cent and above, with 189 passing with the distinction.
Varad Deshpande, a topper at the school with 97.8 per cent marks, said, “I am very proud that I have studied without attending any coaching classes as I believe in self-study. I am grateful to my teachers and parents for guiding and supporting me. Physics and mathematics are my favourite subjects, and going ahead, I would love to do my career in engineering.”
REGARDING ICSE EXAMINATION
Nationwide, there were 1,021 candidates with learning difficulties appearing for ICSE, out of which 123 obtained marks above 90 per cent. Out of the 36 visually challenged candidates, 11 scored above 90 per cent. This time, three candidates took their ICSE examinations in the hospitals.
The ICSE examination was conducted in 60 written subjects of which 22 are Indian languages and 10 foreign languages and two classical languages. There were 208 ICSE schools in Maharashtra.
SOME OTHER 100 PER CENT SCORING SCHOOLS IN CITY
- Aryan Varma stood out to be the topper at Bishop’s School, Camp with 98.6 per cent marks, followed by Animesh Singh at 98.4 per cent and Mihir Deshpande at 98.2 per cent.
- Out of 100 students of Vidya Pratishthan’s Magarpatta City Public School who appeared in the examination, 59 secured above 90 per cent. Aryan Godse secured 98.6 per cent to top the Std X class.
- Wisdom World School Principal J Simoes said, “Our young school is only nine years old and we have proved our mettle with an exemplary performance. Our 59 students out of 85 have scored 90 per cent and above.” Naman Agarwal has topped the school with 98 per cent.
