Pune: At a time when daily COVID-19 cases in Pune (district) are touching over 10,000, people are still not following lockdown guidelines stringently. Amid this, Pune Police came across various incidents when it found people stepping out of their homes and not following COVID guidelines. When asked by cops, people were found giving weird excuses. Violators were booked under relevant sections of law. Pune Police on Wednesday also shared a video stating how some people in the city gave the excuses while violating the COVID norms. The COVID-19 pandemic situation in Pune is getting grim as the district goes through its second wave of novel virus. The Maharashtra government has already enforced strict lockdown, as well as Pune, is also under weekend lockdown to break the chain of the spread of the virus by curtailing non-essential movements, activities.

Recently Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta had said that people are following all norms of weekend lockdown and are adhering all protocols of curfew. But despite many appeals, some people are seen travelling around the city without any valid reason. The Police Commissioner has also ordered all police stations to take legal actions as well as take stringent steps against the violators.

In an effort to encourage the citizens to adhere to the mask mandate, Pune police are actively involved on social media campaigns since the pandemic broke out. Recently, Pune Police also shared an Israeli campaign video to spread awareness.

In order to inspire people and help them stay motivated and safe from the SARS-CoV-2 infection, the Pune Police are always recommending keeping the masks on to prevent the risk of a serious or life-threatening infection.

Pune district on Thursday witnessed 10,902 new cases taking the total caseload to 7,53,353. While the district also saw 120 deaths in past 24 hours taking the total death tally to 11,767.
