Pune, 10 March 2026: A portion of the newly constructed flyover at University Chowk (Anand Rishi Chowk), built to ease congestion on Ganeshkhind Road and nearby areas, has recently been opened for traffic.
However, the absence of proper direction boards and traffic management systems is creating confusion among motorists and raising concerns about potential bottlenecks at the junction.
The flyover is expected to provide relief to vehicles travelling towards the University area from Baner, Aundh and Pashan. Despite this, drivers are finding it difficult to navigate the intersection due to the lack of clear signboards indicating routes and directions.
Many motorists are forced to change lanes suddenly, increasing the risk of traffic build-ups at the busy junction.
Motorists have also pointed out that essential traffic infrastructure such as lane markings, guidance signs and traffic control measures are yet to be fully implemented. As a result, vehicle movement at the intersection has slowed down even after the flyover opened, with congestion reported during peak hours.
“Despite the flyover becoming operational, the absence of clear direction boards and traffic guidance is creating confusion for drivers and increasing the chances of traffic jams,” motorists said.
University chowk is one of Pune’s major traffic intersections and witnesses heavy vehicular movement every day. The route is widely used by commuters travelling to IT hubs, educational institutions and nearby industrial areas, making efficient traffic management crucial.
Meanwhile, temporary cement concrete dividers installed during the flyover construction are still in place on parts of the road. These dividers were earlier used to divert traffic during the construction phase, particularly on the stretch connecting Ganeshkhind Road to Pashan.
However, even after the flyover work was completed, the dividers have not been removed, narrowing the carriageway and slowing down traffic flow. On Monday evening, commuters reported significant congestion in the area due to the restricted road space.
Motorists are now urging authorities to quickly install direction boards, improve traffic planning and remove unnecessary dividers to ensure smooth movement at the intersection.
