Four govt hospitals to set up NICU

Pune: A good news for all those who have to wait for long hours at Sasson General Hospital for treatment of babies, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will soon be starting the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital,

Sonawane Hospital, Dalvi Hospital and Kamla Nehru Hospital.
PMC recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Finolex Industries Limited (FIL) and Mukul Madhav Foundation (MMF). This is an initiative taken by PMC Commissioner Kunal Kumar and Guardian Minister Girish Bapat to upgrade corporation hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment.

The hospitals will have specialised training for the doctors (eight) and nurses (29) at CPAP (Continuous positive airway pressure) level. These training sessions will be conducted under the expertise of Dr Aarti Kinikar from Sassoon General Hospital, Dr Rajan Joshi from Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Dr Pradeep Suryawanshi from Bharati Hospital where NICUs were present.

Once the NICU starts functioning at these hospitals, expert medical care for newborn babies will be made available absolutely free of cost.

Speaking about this, Ritu Chhabria, Managing Trustee from MMF, said, “We are grateful to all the neonatologists and doctors who have come together to offer training and bring Pune together to serve better in the field of neonatology. It is a matter of honour to be able to serve the people in our city.”
