Fuel prices reach record-high; petrol in Pune now costliest since 2013

Pune: Petrol price in Pune soared to Rs 93.14 a litre on Thursday, the highest in the city since 2013 when the price had crossed the mark of Rs 93. Petrol and diesel prices in Pune touched new all-time highs. Now, petrol per litre costs Rs 93.14 while diesel selling at Rs 82. 38 a litre in Pune city. Earlier, petrol and diesel rates were Rs 92.52 and Rs 81.72, prevailing in Pune city.

Petrol and diesel prices have increased 12 times in 2021. State-run Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have improved the retail prices for the second successive day on Friday taking fuels rates to record high levels around the country also.

According to the daily pricing machinery, the retail prices of transportation fuels in India are dependent on the international crude prices and the rupee-US dollar exchange rate as India imports around 83 per cent of its crude supplies. On Thursday, the Indian rupee was stable at 72.96 against the US dollar ahead of Reserve Bank of India's important monetary policy decision.

Talking about other cities, Mumbaikars have to bear Rs 93.49 for a litre of petrol while per litre diesel costs Rs 83.99. In Chennai, the retail prices of petrol and diesel are Rs 89.39 and Rs 82.33 per litre respectively. The retail price of petrol price was hiked by 29 paise to Rs 88.30 a litre while diesel costs Rs 80.71 a litre in Kolkata.
