PUNE: Giripremi Mountaineering Club’s Vivek Shivade and Jitendra Gaware recently successfully climbed Mt Ama Dablam (6,812-m) peak, which is located in the Khumbu region in Nepal.
Mt Ama Dablam is considered to be a tougher peak to climb compared to Mt Everest, the tallest peak.
Both the mountaineers have a vast experience of high-altitude mountaineering. They have also climbed Mt Kangchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world.
Vivek and Jitendra were two of the 10 mountaineers from Giripremi who climbed Mt Kangchenjunga in May 2019.
Both the mountaineers have been training under the guidance and mentorship of Umesh Zirpe, the veteran mountaineer and the Shri Shiv Chhatrapati Awardee.
Zirpe said “Jitendra and Vivek are experienced and skilled mountaineers. Both mountaineers have shown exemplary skills of mountaineering by scaling the peak in quickly.”
Zirpe also stressed on the technical aspect of climbing Mt Ama Dablam. According to him, Mt Ama Dablam is a technically challenging peak to climb. It is compared to Mt Everest in terms of climbing challenges.
