GST sessions to teach students how to file returns

Pune: In a unique initiative to help not-so-technology-savvy traders and businessmen, the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) department is holding special seminars for students to teach them basics of filing returns. The department officials believe that these students can help small traders and businesses in filing their GST returns without having to go to an accountant.

Speaking on the initiative, Deputy Commissioner, SGST Pune, Rajesh Adwani said that students or youngsters are faster on computers and can help their parents or neighbours with the technical processes. “It will be a huge boon for small traders and businesses, who are not well acquainted with computers if they can get help from the youths in their families or neighbourhood in filing the returns. Many of these cannot afford hiring accountants and this is where these sessions will help,” he said.

Adwani said that these seminars will guide students on filing of returns under the new tax regime and also spread awareness about GST.
“After learning about the basics, they can help their parents in handling all these technical tasks. We already held one session recently where we saw an attendance of nearly 300 to 400 students. We are having another session at Hujurpaga College at 10.30 am on Friday. It is an open-to-all session and students can come down to learn about GST,” he said.

According to him, the department will hold more such sessions to enable smaller traders and businesses to file their returns without any inconvenience.
