Protest against tax hike from `20 per month to `200 per day; Mayor assures help
Pune: A massive rally by Jijiya Kar Hatao Pathari Vyavasaik Sangharsh Kriti Samiti (action committee of hawkers protesting against hike in tax) was organised on Thursday.
With an aim to give justice to the street hawkers, who have been affected with the steep increase in tax from Rs 20 per month to Rs 200 per day, the delegation of the hawkers association submitted their memorandum of demands to reduce tax hike to Mayor Mukta Tilak. The rally started from Shaniwarwada and ended at Pune Municipal Corporation's head office.
Tilak said, “I will soon hold an affiliate committee meeting and speak about the hike in tax for our hardworking labourers. I will personally look into in the matter and try out all the possible legalities to give justice to the hawkers.”
Committee President Ravindra Malvadkar said, “We will wait for a week to get a decision on the demand otherwise we will conduct 'Jail Bharo Andolan'."
He further added, “We won't give any tax amount to the authorities till there is a decision taken on the issue.”
