Heavy Vehicles Banned 24x7 on Katraj-Kondhwa to Gangadham Chowk Route
Pune, 1st July 2025: In a move to curb frequent accidents at Gangadham Chowk, Pune Traffic Police have imposed a 24-hour ban on the movement of heavy and large vehicles on specific stretches of the Katraj-Kondhwa Road. The ban, which came into effect from July 1, applies to trucks, dumpers, mixers, and container vehicles.
The restricted routes include the stretch from Shatrunjay Mandir (near Kanha Hotel) to Gangadham Chowk, and from Tilekar Chowk to Gangadham Chowk. Authorities state that the steep downhill gradient in this area often causes heavy vehicles to lose control, resulting in fatal accidents.
A tragic incident on June 11, where a speeding truck hit and killed 28-year-old Dipali Soni at Gangadham Chowk, prompted the decision. In response, the traffic department issued this permanent ‘No Entry’ order for the safety of commuters.
Heavy vehicle drivers have been advised to use alternative routes. Police have also warned that violators will face strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Key Points from the Order:
24-Hour Entry Ban for Heavy Vehicles:
Shatrunjay Mandir to Gangadham Chowk
Tilekar Chowk to Gangadham Chowk
Restricted Hours (8 AM to 10 PM) for Heavy Vehicles on:
Lullanagar-Kondhwa to Gangadham Chowk to Chandralok Hospital Chowk
Gangadham Chowk to Vakhari Mahamandal Chowk to Seven Loves Chowk
