Pune, 16 June 2025: The completion of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro line will be further delayed, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has proposed to extend the project till March 2026. Due to the delay in getting possession of the 'Raj Bhavan' site, permissions from various departments are required for the work here.
More than 85 percent of the work of the 23.3-km Hinjawadi to ShivajiNagar Metro project undertaken by PMRDA has been completed. The bridges on this route have been constructed and the tracks have also been laid. Currently, the work of escalators, traffic control lights (signals), electrical systems and other minor repairs at 23 stations is in the final stages, but the transfer of the 'Raj Bhavan' site in this project was refused due to security reasons.
Finally, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis approved the transfer of this land in February. However, this land was transferred only in name. Work at this place is being refused due to security reasons, and efforts are being made to get permits. PMRDA has said that it is trying to complete the work of the station at this place and conduct the metro test this year.
To reduce traffic congestion between the IT parks and Shivajinagar in the Hinjawadi area, PMRDA has taken up the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Metro Rail Project. The project is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The project has been delayed due to land acquisition, permits, tenders and commencement orders.
Due to the delay in taking possession of the Raj Bhavan site along the route of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro project, the permissions of various departments have been delayed due to security reasons. After that, it is expected to take ten months to start the actual work and complete the testing, correction of technical errors, etc. Against this backdrop, a proposal has been sent to the state government for an extension till March 2026. The Chief Secretary of the Finance Department has held a meeting in this regard and expressed positive opinion for the extension.
