Pune, 11th June 2026: The long-delayed Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor has missed several previously announced launch deadlines, prompting the project developer to seek an extension until July 2027.

However, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has set an internal target of making the entire route operational by December 2026.

Speaking on Wednesday, Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari said, "Work on the first phase of the corridor is nearing completion. We plan to start passenger services on the first 12 stations from Maan Depot by July 15. We had earlier aimed to launch services by the end of June, but pending works and the onset of the monsoon have delayed the schedule."

According to PMRDA, construction of five additional stations, including the important Shivajinagar station, is expected to be completed by August. Work on the remaining six stations is targeted for completion by December 2026, allowing operations to begin across the entire metro corridor.

The Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro project is being implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. PMRDA officials said, "The contractor has cited various reasons for the delay and has submitted a proposal seeking additional time. Since the project is being executed under the PPP model and the extension request is currently under consideration, no penalties or punitive action can be taken at this stage."
