Pune, 27 April 2026: Every monsoon, the IT hub of Hinjewadi and surrounding areas like Maan and Marunji struggle with severe waterlogging, turning key roads into virtual 'water parks'.
Despite recurring attention on social media and subsequent inspection visits by authorities, residents say the situation remains largely unchanged.
Recently, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari visited the affected areas along with officials, public representatives, and citizens.
The visit aimed to review pre-monsoon preparedness, including drainage cleaning, road repairs, and other preventive measures. However, locals point out that such directives have been issued repeatedly in the past with little visible improvement.
Multiple agencies, including municipal corporations, the Public Works Department, MIDC, and PMRDA, have previously conducted similar inspections and issued instructions. Even during the tenure of former commissioner Yogesh Mhase, such reviews were carried out.
Additionally, Ajit Pawar had personally conducted early morning visits to address Hinjewadi’s issues and ordered immediate action. Yet, many critical infrastructure works remain incomplete.
IT professionals say the problems have persisted for years without meaningful resolution due to a lack of coordination and administrative will among authorities. Mohit Mangal, representing IT employees, said that unless there is strong coordination and intent, Hinjewadi-Maan IT hub will continue to suffer from chronic issues.
Local resident Vasant Sakhare questioned the outcome of past directives, stating that without serious implementation, the decline of the IT hub will continue despite repeated announcements and inspections.
Key pending issues include incomplete stormwater drainage work at Nande Chowk, road widening at Laxmi Chowk and Kolte-Patil stretch, and poor road conditions in areas like Nere, Dattawadi, and Jambe, further worsening the situation during heavy rains.
