PUNE: “Getting an international level certification for the school helps make a big difference. It will change the perspective in which our school is looked at,” said Huzurpaga Girls Primary School (Laxmi Road) Principal Sadhana Jakkal.
Huzurpaga recently received ISO certification and became the first aided private Marathi school in the city to receive this honour. The certification is given based on the standards set by 120 countries regarding quality of the educational institution.
TRADITIONAL EDUCATION WITH OTHER ACTIVITIES
“We have always tried to keep our school up-to-date with all the technological changes. We have a tab lab with 64 tabs so that our girls can look for additional information and reference material. We have television screens and projectors in almost all our classrooms. However, we do not use technology extensively, because in the end, there should be the right balance between theoretical teaching and visual aids. We cannot have excessive utilisation of either,” Jakkal said.
Jakkal said the school also emphasises extra-curricular activities. “We encourage our girls to participate in sports and art-related events that we organise at school, as well as outside school. Our annual days are themed and we have competitive examinations,” she added.
CHANGED PERSPECTIVE TOWARDS MARATHI SCHOOLS
“In my experience, I have seen that parents are now more interested in admitting their children to Marathi schools, as far as they are sure that we provide qualitative education,” Jakkal stated.
She said, “I have a strength of 1,235 students at my school from classes I to IV. We have an English medium school in our premises, but that has not affected our strength. Several parents have been drawn towards our school because of the education as well as the other activities that we provide. In fact, our admissions for next academic year too have already started.”
