PUNE: Ahead of the festive season and upcoming State Assembly election, an ‘Inter-district Crime Coordination Border Conference’ was held at the Pune Police Commissioner’s office on Wednesday. 

The meeting was attended by senior officers from all neighbouring police units. In the conference, it was decided that the database of criminals would be shared. 

Police Commissioner Dr K Venkatesham, who chaired the meeting, said that various issues related to law and order as well as crime detection were discussed. It was also decided that a WhatsApp group of officers will be formed soon so that information, photos of criminals involved in chain-snatching, extortion, robbery and other crimes will be shared easily. 

The meeting was attended by Kolhapur Range Spl IGP Suhas Warke, Pune Police Joint CP Ravindra Shisve, Pune Rural SP Sandip Patil, Ahmednagar SP Ishu Sindhu, Solapur Rural SP Manoj Patil, Solapur City DCP (Crime) Bapu Bangar, Pune Government Railway Police (GRP) SP Deepak Sakore, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police DCP (Crime) Sudhir Hiremath, Pune Police DCP (Crime) Bachchan Singh, DCP (EOW & Cyber Crime) Sambhaji Kadam, DCP (Special Branch) Mitesh Ghatte and Satara Police Wai SDPO Ajit Tike. The police inspectors of local crime branch units were also present during the conference.

According to officials, joint raids will be conducted against sand mafia operating in Daund and Ahmednagar border areas. Also, joint nakabandi will be organised to trace suspects. Social media will be monitored and information will be shared with all the units. 

Kolhapur Range IG Warke said, “We are also compiling an areawise list of goons who demand extortion from industrialists or indulge in organised crime. They will be booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).”
