IWP motivates women cops, will inspire girls to join the police force in higher numbers

Pune : To motivate women cops at the workplace, the Rotary Club of Pune NIBM (RCPNIBM) has built a restroom for ladies at the Pune police headquarters in Shivajinagar. The initiative is part of RCPNIBM’s infrastructure for women police (IWP) project.

Women cops have to put up with conditions where there are no proper changing rooms and separate toilet facility. They have to share toilets with male colleagues at several police chowkies and police stations.

The IWP is a unique project of providing a fully equipped retiring room admeasuring 180 sq ft. The room is furnished with a bunk bed, wardrobe with locker facility and a full-height mirror, exclusively for women police. The room has an attached bathroom with pressurised system for shower facility.
According to RCPNIBM, this would provide women police some privacy and a much-needed place to rest. This in turn may inspire young girls to join the police force as lack of proper facilities may be one of the reasons for scarce enrollment of women in the force.

Dr Shailesh Palekar, District Governor of Rotary District 3131 handed over the project to the police last week. This project has been highly appreciated by the police as well as the corporate community around Pune. The total project cost is Rs 15 lakh. The club has decided to do the project in all police stations.  Rotary Club of Pune NIBM has already completed and handed over such facilities in eight police stations.
