PUNE: Realising the importance of religious and historical heritage, the Ministry of Railways has taken an initiative to design station buildings in accordance with the local history and culture.
The Jejuri station, under Pune Railway Division of Central Railway is famous for Khandoba Temple. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Milind Deouskar got the Jejuri station located in Pune-Satara section renovated.
“The station building and its facade have been made attractive by giving it the Khandoba Devasthan look. Jejuri, a small municipal town in Pune district, which houses the temple of Lord Khandoba revered by many across the State, will be the first such station within Pune Division,” said spokesperson of Pune Railway Division Manoj Jhawar. The railways has spent Rs 50 lakh on this project.
“Along with this, several development works has also been done at this station to provide better facilities for passengers. The length of platform No. 1 has been increased to accommodate 24 coaches and the surface has been upgraded by elevating this platform. A new roof of about 1,000 square metres has been installed on the platform, making passengers very comfortable in sun and rain. A water filter plant also has been installed, providing pure drinking water to passengers,” said Jhawar.
Since Jejuri station has been given the appearance of the Khandoba Temple, travellers are expected to maintain cleanliness and not spit.
