Pune, 19 June 2025: Even after four years, the Katraj flyover is still not ready. It was supposed to reduce heavy traffic in the area, but the work keeps getting delayed mainly because of problems in buying the required land. Now, it looks like the flyover might not open before 2026, disappointing thousands of daily commuters.

The foundation stone was laid on September 24, 2021, and the original deadline was February 24, 2024. Due to slow progress, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already extended the deadline twice. The latest deadline is December 2025, but looking at the speed of work, it seems unlikely that the flyover will be ready even by then.

NHAI had said that if the remaining land was acquired by mid-June, they could complete the flyover in six months. However, there has been no major progress. The municipal corporation and district administration still need more time to finish the process, so meeting the new deadline looks difficult.

Right now, about 50% of the work is done. Ten out of nineteen spans are complete. A big problem remains at Rajas Society Chowk where 11 plots are needed for the descent ramp, but only 7 have been bought so far. The responsibility for the remaining plots is now with the land acquisition wing, but a strike by land surveyors has delayed things further.

People living in and around Katraj are very frustrated with the daily traffic jams. They want NHAI and other authorities to act quickly and finish the flyover soon. The project, which costs ₹169.15 crore, includes a six-lane flyover, service roads on both sides, and slip roads to make traffic smoother. Until the work is completed, commuters will have to continue facing traffic troubles.
