According to sources, the operation may be connected to attempts to disrupt peace in Pune through networks like "I Love Mohammed," though investigations are ongoing.

Kondhwa has previously been a focus of anti-terror vigilance. In 2023, Pune Police arrested three ISIS-linked suspects from the area. During that case, authorities recovered bomb-making materials, drone equipment, and other suspicious items, with allegations that tests were conducted in the Western Ghats forests.

In 2024, ATS uncovered an illegal telephone exchange in Kondhwa, seizing 3,788 SIM cards suspected of being used for terrorist communications. The dense settlements and labour colonies in the area have historically provided cover for such networks, including infiltrators from Bangladesh and other regions.
