Pune: A 53-year-old woman, who was travelling from Pune to Vadodara by Indore Express on Tuesday, lost her valuables worth Rs 6.50 lakh including gold bars and cash. The lady has filed an FIR with Government Railway Police (GRP) at Vadodara junction.
Dhermista Ben Vipinchandra Patel, a Khadki resident, was travelling to Vadodara on Tuesday afternoon when the incident took place. She had booked tickets on Indore Express from Pune to Vadodara, but since her tickets could not be confirmed till she reached her destination, she travelled in the ladies compartment. She was carrying valuables worth Rs 6.50 lakh with her," said her son Jay Patel while talking to Sakal Times.
She even avoided going to the washroom during her over nine hour journey keeping a constant vigil on her bag.
She had kept all her valuables including clothes, gold bars and cash in it. Yet the theft took place," he added.
"When she alighted at Vadodara junction, she found that her valuables have been stolen and so she immediately filed a complaint of theft with Railway police at Vadodara," Jay added.
According to him, the theft could have taken place between Lonavla and Kalyan junction when there was a heavy rush of people boarding the train. According to GRP, Pune junction, on an average, 10 cases of thefts are registered every day between Daund and Kalyan junctions.
Senior PI, GRP, Manoj Khandale, said, "The passengers on the trains coming from Daund and Kalyan approach us to register the complaints of thefts and other crimes. We then transfer the cases to the designated junctions. Earlier, complaints from Daund were more but nowadays, there has been an increase in the number of theft cases from the passengers travelling or coming from Kalyan junction," he added.
