Light showers in some parts of city

Pune: After a long sunny week, the city received light showers on Ganesh Chaturthi. Shivajinagar, Sangvi, University Road and other areas experienced showers on Thursday. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted partly cloudy skies and rain or thundershowers in some areas towards evening till September 16. The IMD also forecasted one or two spells of rainfall till September 19. The maximum temperature during the day will be around 29 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD, rain is very likely at a few places over Konkan and Goa and at isolated places over central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha between September 16 and September 17.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has been active over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, west Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. It has been subdued over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, west Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, coastal Karnataka and Kerala.

Across the country, IMD forecasted heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh till September 17. 

Rough to very rough sea conditions are likely over the Andaman Sea, east-central and southwest Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas during this period.
