Around noon on Friday, hotel staff noticed smoke coming from his room and alerted emergency services. Fire brigade personnel and a team from Samarth police station reached the spot.

The fire was brought under control, but Shah was found dead inside the room. He had burn injuries on one hand, and officials suspect he died due to suffocation caused by the heavy smoke.

Senior police inspector Umesh Gitte said initial inquiry suggests the fire started accidentally from a cigarette while Shah was drunk. An accidental death report has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
