Pune: Model Colony Parisar Sudharana Samiti (MCPSS) has come up with a suggestion to discipline traffic violators in the city by proposing a traffic school, where traffic offenders will be given quiz paper or will be shown a film on traffic rules and regulations to increase awareness about traffic. According to samiti members, this will help the citizens to understand and strictly follow traffic norms.
The proposal has been discussed with Ashok Morale, Deputy Commissioner of Pune (Traffic), who was forthcoming over the proposal, said samiti secretary Shaymala Desai. She said, “We have proposed the traffic school at the busy junction Chaphekar Chowk (Agriculture College junction). The person who violates any traffic rule will be taken to the school after the traffic police apprehend him/her and confiscate the driving licences.
There, the person will be shown a film regarding traffic norms or a quiz paper to solve,” added Desai.
The proposal which aims to kick off within two months was aimed at spreading awareness about traffic rules and the ill-effects of traffic violations, she said.
Shabnam Poonawala, president of the samiti, said, “We are expecting to see a rising graph in citizens following the traffic rules and traffic police implementing it. This will further hopefully reduce the accidents.”
Morale said, “I have received the suggestion and it was good a concept. But we haven’t had any written documents regarding it so it would not be appropriate to talk more about it. We are waiting for proper designing and implementation of the suggestion from the samiti.”
