

PUNE: After four years’, the Mechanised Infantry Regiment celebrated its 8th reunion from November 2 to 4. The occasion was graced by serving and veteran officers, junior commissioned officer, other ranks and Veer Naris (war widows) of the regiment at the veterans’ ‘Alma mater’, the Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre (MIRC) at Ahmednagar.
The reunion commenced with the maiden General K Sundarji memorial lecture at Rajendra Singhji Institute, Pune. On November 3, the event commenced at MIRC with a visit to MIRC Green, an environmental and training area. In the evening, a reunion badakhana was held at Sainik Institute.
On November 4, there was a glittering passing out parade ceremony wherein 361 trainees were attested on successful completion of basic infantry training. The parade was reviewed by Lt General P Mohammed Hariz, GOC-in-C Southern Command and Colonel of MIRC.
The event was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial. Lt Gen Hariz addressed applauded the regiment for its rich tradition and impeccable record and exhorted them to rededicate themselves to live up to the motto of regiment ‘Veerta aur vishwas’. The Sarath, Veer Sarathi and Salute (special) magazines were released on the occasion.
A special family welfare meet was held at MIRC Auditorium wherein Zarina Hariz, Regional President, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) felicitated the war widows. Later, there was dynamic display by motorcycle team, dog display, physical training and malkhamb display.
