Metro project work on Karve Road will take a year to complete

Pune: Officials of the Maha Metro on Thursday said a part of Karve Road from SNDT College to Nal Stop will soon be one-way and no vehicles will be allowed from SNDT College towards Nal Stop.

As per the proposed diversion plan, vehicles will have to take a left turn at SNDT College and the next right on Law College Road to touch the Nal Stop Chowk.

Chief Project Manager Gautam Birhade of Maha Metro said work on the stretch will take about a year to complete. "We appeal to people for cooperation for a year. We have written to the Pune Municipal Corporation as we will have to cut about 1.5 metres of the footpath. The work on Karve Road will start in two weeks," added Birhade.

He said adequate traffic wardens will be deployed to assist traffic police during the diversion. "We are also starting the work of building Ideal Colony Station. After that we will focus on Vanaz Station and then Anand Nagar," added Birhade.

The Maha Metro is working in close coordination with traffic police to handle the traffic chaos. "We have written to several private bus agencies to use diversions for the route. Similarly, we have asked the traffic police to communicate the same for the State transport buses," added Birhade.

Maha Metro is planning to build a parking facility at two spots near SNDT College. Birhade said the tender for construction from Ramwadi to civil court will soon be floated. "Similarly, the tenders for signalling system of the metro will be floated in February," added Birhade.

Nine metro stations are to be built from civil court to Vanaz station.
