Mumbai-Pune Expressway accident: Five killed, several injured in multiple-vehicles collision

Khopoli: At least five people were killed and five injured in a big collision between multiple vehicles near Khopoli on Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The accident took place when a truck rammed into two cars and another vehicle near Khopoli town on Pune-Mumbai Expressway in the early hours of Tuesday.

The accident occurred near Khalapur toll plaza. According to the police, the truck hit two cars and a goods vehicle from behind. According to the police officials, the driver of the truck was speeding when he lost his control over the vehicle. Soon after the vehicle, highway police along with ambulance rushed to the spot.

The deceased included a veterinary doctor working at Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) who, along with his family members, was travelling in one of the cars, as per information given by police, according to news agency PTI.

The deceased have been identified as Dr Vaibhav Vasant Zunzare (41), Usha Vasant Zunzare (63), Vaishali Vaibhav Zunzare (38), Shreya Vaibhav Zunzare (5), all residents of Nerul, Navi Mumbai and Manju Prakash Nahar (58) of Goregaon, Mumbai.

The injured persons named Swapnil Sonaji Kamble (30), Prakash Hemraj Nahar (65), both residents of Goregaon, Mumbai, Arnav Vaibhav Zunzare (11) of Nerul, Navi Mumbai and Kaluram Jamnaji Jat and Kishan Chaudhary are admitted at nearest rural hospital.
