Pune, 18th June 2026: Commuters using the Mumbai-Pune Expressway should be prepared for temporary traffic restrictions today, as the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will undertake a special rockfall prevention operation near the Adoshi Tunnel in the Borghat section.
To ensure the safety of motorists and workers, the movement of heavy and multi-axle vehicles will remain completely suspended between 12 pm and 2 pm.
The operation involves removing rocks and debris trapped in protective safety nets installed on the hillside above the tunnel. Authorities said the work is necessary to reduce the risk of rockfalls, especially during the monsoon season, and to improve safety along the busy expressway corridor.
As part of the traffic management plan, heavy vehicles travelling from Pune towards Mumbai will be stopped beyond the 59-km mark, while those heading from Mumbai towards Pune will not be allowed beyond the 30-km mark during the two-hour closure period.
Alternative arrangements have been made for light vehicles and passenger buses. Vehicles travelling towards Pune will be diverted through the connector route near the 39-km mark, while those heading towards Mumbai can use the connector link at the 59-km mark.
In addition, all vehicles travelling from the Lonavala and Khandala region towards Mumbai will be halted at the 45-km mark until the operation is completed.
MSRDC has appealed to motorists to cooperate with the restrictions and plan their journeys accordingly. Commuters travelling on the expressway during the affected period are advised to expect delays and use alternative routes wherever possible to avoid inconvenience and traffic congestion.
