Despite a large number of vacant posts in various categories, including engineering cadres, the recruitment process had remained on hold for a long period, affecting the functioning of several municipal departments.

Following the lifting of the recruitment ban, the civic administration restarted the process. Earlier, during 2022–23, the corporation had filled 748 posts across departments.

The recruitment process for Junior Engineer (Civil) posts began in March 2024 for 113 posts, but faced repeated interruptions due to the election model code of conduct, issues related to Maratha reservation, pending government approvals, and the expiry of the agreement with IBPS. After a fresh agreement was signed with IBPS, candidates were allowed to make changes to their applications.

The exam was initially scheduled for December 1, but was postponed due to municipal and nagar panchayat elections. A revised date of December 15 was also deferred after the municipal code of conduct came into force. With all election-related restrictions now over, the corporation has finalised January 25 as the exam date.

The online examination will be held across six revenue divisions, covering 20 districts, at a total of 69 examination centres. Pune alone will have nine centres. A total of 169 Junior Engineer (Civil) posts will be filled through this process, with 41,273 candidates registered for the exam.
