NDA cadets carry forward the legacy and their dreams

PUNE: A total of 211 cadets were conferred the degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi, during the convocation ceremony of 137th course held at Habibullah Hall on the National Defence Academy (NDA) campus on Friday. 

Cadet Anurag Pandey won the Commandant’s Silver Medal and COAS Trophy presented by General K Sundarji, for standing first in Science stream with highest FGPA (Final Grade Point Average). Majhi Giridhar got the Commandant’s Silver Medal and the CNS Trophy presented by Admiral Suresh Mehta, for standing first in Computer Science stream. 

Sumant Kumar bagged the Commandant’s Silver Medal and the CAS Trophy presented by Air Chief Marshal NC Suri, for standing first in Arts stream. 

Nishant Kumar won the Commandant’s Silver Medal and Admiral OS Dawson’s Trophy for standing first in the BTech programme.

MAJHI GIRIDHAR
He hails from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and has studied in a Sainik School. His father is a supervisor at a coal mine in Odisha. “I am the first from my family to join the armed forces. I would like to join the Gorkha Regiment,” Giridhar told media persons. 

ANURAG PANDEY
He is native of Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. His grandfather was in the Army (Pune-based Bombay Engineer Group).  “My father could not join the army. He motivated me to join the Army,” Pandey said.  

NISHANT KUMAR VISHWAKARMA
He studied up to class 12 in  Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun. His two elder brothers are engineers. “I  will join the Navy,” Vishwakarma said.

SUMANT KUMAR
His father Mithilesh Kumar is a Naib Subedar in the Army. He hails from Samastipur in Bihar. 

Sumant Kumar was enrolled at Sainik School, Tilaiya, in Jharkhand to get good primary education. “My father’s dream has come true today. I was inspired by him to become an Army officer,” Kumar said.
