Pune, 25th August 2026: The MahaMetro has announced plan to demolish the existing flyover on the Pune–Nashik Highway in Bhosari as part of the revised Nigdi–Chakan Metro project. The announcement was made while presenting the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) before the general body.
The original proposal routed the metro through the Telco Road, Spine Road and Moshi. However, following growing demands to include Bhosari, MahaMetro revised the alignment.
The number of proposed stations has been increased from 31 to 34, while the estimated project cost stands at ₹12,037 crore.
Under the revised plan, the 45.2-km corridor will begin at Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and pass through Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Bhujbal Chowk, Pimple Saudagar, Nashik Phata, Sant Tukaram Nagar, YCM Hospital, Telco Road, Landewadi, Bhosari Gaon, Panjarpol and Moshi before reaching Chakan.
According to MahaMetro, the metro corridor will be elevated from Nashik Phata. The plan is to maintain road traffic at one level and construct the metro corridor above it. This requires the existing Bhosari flyover to be removed.
MahaMetro director Atul Gadgil said the revised arrangement is intended to improve connectivity between Chakan and Pimpri-Chinchwad while helping reduce traffic congestion.
The decision has renewed political discussion within the Pimpri-Chinchwad civic body. The demolition proposal had already triggered differences between two groups during a meeting at MahaMetro's Pune office last month. The issue was also reportedly brought to the attention of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Despite the disagreement, local office-bearers and elected representatives had largely avoided taking a clear public position on the matter. MahaMetro's latest announcement has now brought the issue back into focus.
Although MahaMetro has presented the revised DPR, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has not yet granted formal approval.
Both opposition and ruling-party corporators raised objections to certain aspects of the presentation, following which the general body meeting was adjourned.
MahaMetro is expected to make a revised presentation this week. A decision on the DPR is likely after the updated presentation.
