Nine drug traffickers booked under MCOCA

Pune: Nine drug traffickers, including five women and four men, were booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) by Khadak police on Monday. It is for the first time that offenders under NDPS (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act have been booked under MCOCA.

The nine, including main narcotics trafficker Aarti Misal (27), were identified as Pooja Misal, Nilofar Sheikh, Ayasha Sheikh, Julekhabi Sheikh, Rocky Singh, Azhar alias Chuha Sheikh, Navnath Misal and Hussain Sheikh.

Aarti Misal had stretched her operation across the city, as well as Mumbai. Sleuths from the Khadak police busted the racket and arrested seven people, including Misal and two other women. They recovered 100 grams of brown sugar, 2.5 kg hash, a car, a scooter, cash and ornaments worth Rs 12,81,000.

Misal, along with Pooja Misal, Nilofar Sheikh, Rocky Singh and Azhar alias Chuha Sheikh, was on the run after two other members of the gang, Navnath Misal and Hussain Sheikh, were arrested on December 1.

Rajendra Mokashi, Police Inspector, Khadak police, said, “This is the first time that we have booked NDPS criminals under MCOCA. They have made a lot of money through this drug racket.”
