Pune, 7th March 2026: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has announced infrastructure projects worth ₹50,000 crore aimed at addressing traffic congestion in and around Pune.
The large-scale projects are expected to transform mobility in the region while also helping reduce pollution levels.
Speaking at an event in Pune, Gadkari unveiled several key road projects including new corridors, highway upgrades and connectivity improvements designed to streamline traffic movement across the city and nearby areas.
He said, “Once these infrastructure works are completed, Pune will largely become free from traffic bottlenecks and pollution levels will also reduce significantly.”
One of the major proposals is the 54-km Pune–Shirur corridor, which will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹7,515 crore. Another key project is the 53-km Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur route, expected to be built with an investment of around ₹4,000 crore. The bidding process for this project is currently in its final stage.
The government will also invest about ₹5,000 crore to develop a 31-km stretch between Hadapsar and Yavat on the Pune–Solapur highway, which is expected to improve connectivity and reduce travel delays on the busy corridor.
In northern Pune, the Nashik Phata–Khed project, estimated at ₹7,808 crore, aims to ease traffic congestion in the rapidly developing industrial belt. Meanwhile, a detailed project report worth ₹6,000 crore will be prepared for the Pune–Satara road, along with renovation work on the old Mumbai–Pune Expressway corridor.
Gadkari also announced plans for a new Mumbai–Bengaluru highway corridor that will begin at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and pass through Pune, strengthening freight and passenger connectivity between the two major economic centres.
The minister also shared an important update for the Warkari community, stating that construction of the Dehu–Pandharpur and Alandi–Pandharpur palakhi highways is nearing completion. He said he plans to personally inspect both routes next month and that the roads could soon be inaugurated by Narendra Modi.
He further noted that work on the crucial Dive Ghat stretch is in its final stage, while the Katraj flyover project is close to completion. At the same time, the Maharashtra government is moving quickly with the Pune ring road project.
Gadkari also urged the state government to waive royalties on construction materials such as sand and gravel to speed up infrastructure work. “If these measures are taken, the projects can be completed faster and will significantly boost economic development in the region,” he said.
